This is a practical learning program specifically designed for individuals who want to work in the dog grooming industry but cannot commit to full or part-time studies. The program will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to become a competent member of a dog grooming team. Upon completion of the program, you will undergo a skills assessment and will be awarded a Certificate of Completion, which will aid in launching your career in the industry.

Bather & brusher skills

This course covers all the essentials including 3 days of practical learning plus one day of on-the-job working in a real-life setting with a variety of dog breeds.

Course outline

  • getting organised with tools and products

  • confident dog handling and personal protection

  • pet handling and welfare for puppies, seniors, anxious and aggressive dogs

  • understanding dog anatomy and coat types

  • coat and skin and general health inspection

  • identifying and managing matted coats

  • product and equipment choices

  • ear and teeth cleaning

  • risks and hazards

  • shampooing, massage, rinsing and coat conditioning 

  • operating a spa, hydraulic bath and table

  • drying techniques including chamois, spit drying and fluff drying

  • de-shedding, de-matting and detangling

  • nail clipping

  • salon hygiene and cleaning

This course is suitable for someone who has already completed a bather/brusher course or is already working in a salon. Learn the skills and techniques to make you a valuable asset to any salon team.
