Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has the shortest job in the salon. There is no haircut. There is a bath, a dry, nails and a good look at the skin. The coat is easy. The skin is the part to watch. Most Staffies come in every ten weeks.

What the coat is like

A Staffy coat is short, smooth and flat to the body. There is no soft layer under it. Dogs NSW says a weekly brush and a bath once a month will do. Short hair still sheds. The hairs are stiff and they push into fabric, so they feel worse than they look. The good part is that you can see the skin easily.

Why ten weeks

Staffies are known for itchy skin. We are not vets and we do not diagnose. What we do is look. While your dog is wet, we go over the belly, the armpits, the folds at the neck and between the toes. If we see redness, a bare patch or something new, we tell you and send you to your vet. We use a gentle wash and rinse it right out. Anything left in a short coat sits on the skin.

We tell you what we see on the skin. We do not treat it and we do not name it. Your vet does that part.

Home care between grooms

  • A Staffy does not need line brushing. Run a soft rubber brush over the whole dog once a week instead. It lifts the short hair out and lets you feel the skin as you go.
  • Look at the belly, the armpits and between the toes while you brush.
  • Rinse and dry after the beach. Salt left on short hair sits against the skin.

What you need at home

  • Soft rubber grooming brush

It lifts short, stiff hair out of the coat and most Staffies enjoy it.

  • Microfibre towel

A short coat dries fast. A rub down after a wet walk keeps the skin dry.

  • Shampoo and conditioner

A short coat still needs a proper wash to keep the skin comfortable. Our range is made with chemists: 100% natural, vegan and palm oil free.

What we do for Staffies at WOOOF

Most Staffies book a Luxe Wash and Dry. That is a bath, a full dry, ears, nails and a look over the skin. It takes about 35 minutes. It is the smallest job we do and the one owners skip most. Nails matter here. A Staffy is heavy for its size, and long nails change how it stands.

What a Staffordshire Bull Terrier groom costs

Set to a medium dog with a short smooth coat. That is where most Staffies sit. There is no haircut in this service.

Common questions

How often does a Staffordshire Bull Terrier need grooming?

Every ten weeks. There is no coat to cut, so the visit is a wash, a dry, nails and a look over the skin.

Do Staffies shed?

Yes. The hairs are short and stiff, and they work into rugs and car seats. A weekly rubber brush takes out most of them.

Where this comes from

  1. Dogs NSW, Staffordshire Bull Terrier. "A weekly brush and a bath once a month will suffice."

  2. RSPCA Australia, Why and how should I groom my dog? Brush knots out before they turn into mats.

  3. PetSure, Pet Health Monitor 2026. Ear infections in adult dogs cost $473 on average to treat.

  4. Tripovich and others, Feeling the heat, Australian Veterinary Journal, 2025. A study of NSW dogs from 1997 to 2017. Deaths rose about 0.6% for each degree above 25°C, and 9.5% on days over 32°C. A double coat and a body weight over 15 kg were listed among the things that raise the risk.

WOOOF groomers are not vets. We tell you what we see on the table and send you to your vet. Nothing here is vet advice.
