A Spoodle has a Poodle's curly coat and a Cocker Spaniel's long ears. That mix keeps us busy. The coat knots near the skin and the ears trap damp air. Most Spoodles need a groom every six weeks.

Where the coat comes from
A Spoodle is a Cocker Spaniel crossed with a Poodle. Some people say Cockapoo. There is no set breed standard, so coats vary a lot. Most get the Poodle's curly coat and the Cocker's heavy, low-hanging ears. The ear is the part to watch. It sits flat, so air cannot get under it to dry things out.
Why six weeks
Two things happen between grooms. The curly coat traps shed hair and packs it down at the skin. And hair grows around the ear opening, which keeps the ear damp. Damp ears are where trouble starts. PetSure says ear infections are one of the top three reasons Australian dogs see a vet, at $473 on average to treat. Six weeks keeps both of those in check.
We do not pluck ears. If an ear looks sore, smells off, or your dog keeps shaking their head, we will tell you and send you to your vet.
Home care between grooms
- Line brush every two to three days. Part the hair with one hand and brush a single narrow line, working outwards from the skin. Brushing over the top misses the knots underneath.
- Lift each ear and look underneath every week. Wipe the outer part only. Nothing goes down inside the ear.
- Dry the ears after a swim or a bath. A wet ear that stays shut is the problem.

Run it down to the skin. If it stops, you have found a knot.
- Slicker brush
This is the brush you line brush with. Follow it with the comb.
- Shampoo and conditioner
The conditioner is the one that counts on this coat. Our range is made with chemists: 100% natural, vegan and palm oil free.

Most Spoodles book a Full Groom: bath, full dry, ears, nails and a scissor finish. It takes about 105 minutes. We clean the outer ear every visit and tidy the hair around the opening so air can move. If the coat is knotted we add dematting. Puppies start in the Happy Puppy Club.
