A Sheepadoodle is an Old English Sheepdog crossed with a Poodle. Both parents carry a huge amount of coat. The result is a big dog with a thick curly coat. It holds loose hair rather than dropping it. Most Sheepadoodles need a groom every six weeks.

Where the coat comes from
A Sheepadoodle is a cross, so there is no breed standard. Coats vary a lot from dog to dog. Most are curly or wavy, and most are very dense. Dogs NSW says an Old English Sheepdog in full coat needs three to four hours of grooming a week. It needs a couple more hours to wash and dry. A Sheepadoodle is not far off that. Puppy coat turns to adult coat around twelve months.
Why six weeks
Volume is the problem. There is so much coat that knots hide inside it. The hair packs down at the skin while the top still looks fluffy. On a large dog that adds up fast. Six weeks keeps the length manageable for you and for us. Drying is the other reason. A dense coat holds a lot of water, so the dry takes longer than the clip. A wet coat left to dry on its own will knot as it dries.

Home care between grooms
- Line brush every two days. Push the coat back and brush one thin band at a time, always beginning at the skin. On a dog this size, do one section a day if that is easier.
- Dry the coat properly after swimming or rain. Wet hair knots as it dries.
- Check behind the ears and the armpits each week. Take the harness off while the coat is wet.

What you need at home
- Steel comb
Run it down to the skin. If it stops, you have found a knot.
- Slicker brush
This is the brush you line brush with. Follow it with the comb.
- Shampoo and conditioner
The conditioner is the one that counts on this coat. Our range is made with chemists: 100% natural, vegan and palm oil free.

Most Sheepadoodles book a Full Groom. That is a bath, a full dry, ears, nails and a scissor finish at the length you choose. It takes about 115 minutes, and the drying is most of that. Bring a photo so we get the shape right. A shorter body length holds up better between visits. If the coat is packed down we add Dematting.
