The Pembroke Welsh Corgi sheds more than most dogs its size. The coat is short, thick and double. Hair comes off all year, then far more twice a year. Most Corgis book a wash and dry every ten weeks. Brushing at home keeps it down.

What the coat is like
A Corgi has a soft, dense layer under a harder top coat. Dogs NSW says that double coat needs brushing and combing through once a week. Some Pembrokes carry a much longer coat. These are often called fluffies. A long coated Corgi knots behind the ears, on the trousers and under the front legs. The short coated ones rarely knot at all. They just shed.
Why ten weeks
The soft layer grows and dies all year. Twice a year most of it comes out at once. Hair left in the coat sits against the skin and holds damp. A bath, a deep dry and a full brush out clear far more than brushing at home does. For a Corgi the wash matters more than any haircut. Ten weeks suits most dogs. If yours is dropping coat, come in sooner and we will get ahead of it.
Shaving is not something we will do here. The coat shades the skin in summer, and it may come back thin.
Home care between grooms
- Line brush once a week. Push the coat back with your hand and brush a thin line at a time, down at the skin. In shedding season, do it every day.
- The trousers, the chest and behind the ears hold the most hair.
- Brush outside if you can. Then comb the same spots to see what the brush left behind.

What you need at home
- Slicker brush
This is the brush you line brush with. Follow it with the comb.
- Steel comb
Run it down to the skin. If it stops, you have found a knot.
- Shampoo and conditioner
A proper wash loosens the dead hair so the dry can lift it out. Our range is made with chemists: 100% natural, vegan and palm oil free.

Most Corgis book a Luxe Wash and Dry with Deshedding. That is a bath, a deep dry to the skin, a full brush out, ears and nails. It takes about 40 minutes. Deshedding clears the loose soft layer without taking the coat off. A long coated Corgi may need a tidy around the feet as well.
