A Moodle is a little dog with a fine, soft coat. Fine hair knots faster than thick hair, not slower. It also sits close to the skin where you cannot see it. Most Moodles need a groom every six weeks.

Where the coat comes from
A Moodle is a Maltese crossed with a Poodle. Some people say Maltipoo. There is no set breed standard, so the coat can be tight and curly or soft and wavy. Either way it is fine hair, and fine hair tangles easily. Because the dog is small, the whole coat sits close to the body. A knot can cover a lot of skin before you spot it.
Why six weeks
Shed hair does not fall out of a curly coat. It stays put and mats down against the skin. On a small dog that happens quickly, and a jumper or a harness speeds it up. The face needs a look too. Hair grows down into the eyes and stains from tears build up. Six weeks keeps the coat open and the face clean and comfortable.
A Moodle with knots to the skin gets clipped short. On a dog this small there is no gentle way to comb a solid coat out.
Home care between grooms
- Line brush every two to three days. Push the coat back and brush one thin band at a time, always beginning at the skin. Brushing over the top misses the knots underneath.
- Wipe under the eyes each day with a damp cloth. Tear stains set in if you leave them.
- Check the ears each week. Take the coat off jumpers and harnesses while it dries.

- Steel comb
Run it down to the skin. If it stops, you have found a knot.
- Slicker brush
This is the brush you line brush with. Follow it with the comb.
- Shampoo and conditioner
The conditioner is the one that counts on this coat. Our range is made with chemists: 100% natural, vegan and palm oil free.

Most Moodles book a Full Groom. That is a bath, a full dry, ears, nails, a clean face trim and a scissor finish. It takes about 95 minutes. Face length is your call, so bring a photo. If the coat is knotted we add dematting. Puppies start in the Happy Puppy Club, before the adult coat arrives.

Common questions
How often does a Moodle need grooming?
Every six weeks. A Moodle's coat is fine and curly, so it holds shed hair and knots at the skin faster than a thicker coat would.
Why does my Moodle get tear stains?
Tears run onto the hair below the eye and the hair stains. Wiping daily with a damp cloth helps, and a clean face trim at each groom keeps the hair out of the eye in the first place.
